Description
The Abhidhamma is the philosophical psychology of Early Buddhism, a systematic treatment of the Buddha’s teaching that combines philosophy, psychology, and ethics into a unique synthesis. The Buddhist monks and scholars of the Theravada tradition hold the Abhidhamma in the highest esteem and study it with great diligence.

The course will consist of eight classes. In the first five classes, Ven. Bodhi will deal with chapter VII of the A Comprehensive Manual of
Abhidhamma, which discusses the different groups of defilements, the factors that contribute to enlightenment, and the constituents of reality according to the philosophy of Early Buddhism. During the last three days he will discuss the first part of chapter VIII, on dependent origination.

Newcomers are welcome to join. Past
Abhidhamma lectures by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi at DRBU are available here. (Recommended as background for the lectures but not required.)
