Returning Home: The Path of Meditation

2022 Summer Retreat at the Sudhana Center

We are now full. We appreciate your interest in the retreat. Please register to be put on a waitlist. If spaces become available, we will contact you. If you have any questions, please email retreats@drbu.edu.
The path of meditation begins by turning inwards to find our caring heart that is interconnected with all beings. We often find ourselves seeking outside for security or wandering lost in our justifications, identities, wants and fears. This sense of lack takes us down a treacherous road -- sometimes happy, sometimes sad, and always at the mercy of external conditions.
By reconnecting with our bodies, breath, and heart, we begin to unwind the patterns of our ego and discover the joy in simple existence. Quite naturally, we become instruments for healing and peace for not only ourselves but a traumatized world.
Join us for a week of stillness and movement where we begin to cultivate our inner home of boundless care and compassion that manifests in our outer home as selfless service.
Spaces are limited. Please sign up early.

When:
Saturday, May 28, 3:00pm – Sunday, June 5, 11am, 2022

Program:
We will follow a daily schedule of recitation, seated meditation, sutra study and community work.

Due to the pandemic, all participants this year must attend in-person and participate full time.

Covid-19 safety measures: In order to ensure everyone’s health and well-being, we require participants to be fully vaccinated, including a booster shot. There will be a Covid test upon arrival and regular testing during the retreat. Masks may be required indoors. Participants who test positive or develop symptoms during the retreat may need to return home. More details will be shared closer to the retreat.

Noble Silence:
To maintain an inner and outer environment of concentration, we will observe Noble Silence throughout the retreat. However, participants may speak during discussion periods and lectures, and as-needed during community work.

No Digital Devices:
Please 'unplug' and refrain from using digital technology like cell phones, laptops, tablets and music players during the retreat. This week is a rare opportunity to look deeply into our minds free of the distractions from our devices (while giving others the space to do so as well).

Service as Practice:
Service plays a central role in the overall retreat experience by bringing the Dharma into daily life, supporting others, and creating a sense of community. During the retreat, everyone will be given a simple work duty such as kitchen-prep, cleaning, and dish washing. We hope to foster an environment where work, study, and practice are all integrated into one holistic experience.

Location:
DRBU Sudhana Center
225 South Hope Street in Ukiah, California
